About "Clinco"

Clinco Sheltered Industries Incorporated, or “Clinco” as it is known locally, offers
sheltered employment for individuals with disabilities living in Clinton, Dekalb, Davies,
and Buchanan counties in Missouri. Based in Cameron, Clinco Industries was founded
in the 1970s by Clinton County parents hoping to establish an agency to provide a
safe, supervised work environment for qualified adult family members with physical or
mental disabilities. One of 89 sheltered workshops in Missouri, Clinco has provided
essential services to the community for nearly 50 years by enabling individuals with
disabilities with appropriate work experiences.

Established as a non-profit corporation, Clinco employs over 50 area individuals,
not only offering employees a means of earning a wage, but also providing them with a
place to work with peers and contribute to community betterment projects. Clinco
offers a diverse array of services, including operating the largest recycling center in
Region D of Missouri’s Department of Natural Resources through the 24/7 drop-off and
collection of solid wastes such as cardboard, paper, aluminum, and plastic. Clothing
and shoes in good condition are even collected and reclaimed for use. Once collected,
materials donated for recycling are sorted, bundled, and sold to mills that provide
materials to companies that utilize recycled products in manufacturing. Proceeds from
the recycling efforts, along with subsidies from Region D grants and SB 40 monies,
help fund the employment of the area’s special population.

In addition to recycling, Clinco staff maintains two Interstate rest areas 365 days
a year. With supervised assistance, Clinco employees provide groundskeeping and
custodial care at rest stops along I-35 at Lathrop and I-29 near Dearborn. Closer to
home, Clinco personnel pick up litter, provide custodial services to the public library,
and wash windows for commercial businesses. Other projects have included building
personal protection masks and packaging materials for local industries. These and
other services are available to any organization wishing to contract with Clinco.

One of Clinco’s most recent endeavors was opening a Dollar Barn and Thrift
Store at their 1205 W. Grand Avenue location in Cameron. Operating out of a red and
white storefront with a barn motif, the Dollar Barn offers new merchandise and the
Thrift Store sells donated goods at affordable prices. Items available at both
businesses are stocked and priced by Clinco’s valuable employees. The first Friday of
each month, Clinco also hosts a garage sale of discounted overflow items.

Clinco is additionally assisted by office staff, including Director Debbi LeDuc and
long-time Assistant Manager Paula Eivins, and operated by a board of trustees.
Current board members include president Tom Nance, David Garrison, Patricia Steele,
Jeff Thornton, Denny Clark, Amy McVicker, and Angel Stebbins. Each of these
community-spirited volunteer members (and those who have served before them) are
devoted to overseeing Clinco Industries as a safe-haven and thriving place of
employment for individuals with disabilities in the four-county area.
